HemCon® Nasal Plugs are now available from HemCon Medical Technologies. Made from a PVA foam, they are impregnated with a proprietary active ingredient, m.doc—a microdispersed oxidized cellulose. When in contact with blood, the dressing rapidly expands to provide pressure and absorb blood, offering patients a quick, comfortable, and reliable solution to stop nasal bleeding.
The HemCon dressings are both pain- and burn-free. The exterior of the plugs is coated to prevent them from sticking to the walls of the nose during removal. When bleeding has been controlled, the patient can carefully remove them from the nose and discard them. Ready for removal within an hour, they do not need to remain in place long-term, blocking patients’ airways or requiring another office visit for removal.
