Abstract. Hypothyroidism following hemithyroidectomy for benign nontoxic thyroid disease is an underappreciated phenomenon. Up until recently, it was common practice for physicians to place post-hemithyroidectomy patients on thyroid suppression therapy during the immediate postoperative period.
