Treatment for acute otitis media (AOM) ranges from watchful waiting to myringotomy with or without tube placement.

A 61-year-old man with a history of Ménière disease in the right ear presented with a 4-day history of left-sided hearing loss, mild pain, and aural fullness. He had been in Los Angeles for the previous 48 hours on a business trip. One week earlier, he had had an upper respiratory tract illness with rhinorrhea and cough.
